Mobile internet devices the key to finding a job?
Released: 30/03/2009
The largest ever online recruitment survey shows that an increasing number of online job seekers are now using mobile internet devices in their search for a job.
Almost 10% of online job seekers now use mobile devices such as iphones, Blackberrys or other internet enabled phones to browse the web for jobs. The findings form part of NORAS 2009 - the UKâs largest online recruitment research project, surveying more than 50,000 candidates across 31 online job boards.
Interestingly, Chief Executives and Directors are the most highly represented, constituting around 13% of the âmobile job seekersâ category; more than double the percentage of CEOs and Directors in the general online job seeker population.
Mobile internet devices were also found to be used most by the truly career savvy â with âmobile job huntersâ more likely to visit job boards to make salary comparisons and conduct research into potential employers than the average online job seeker. They are also amongst the most active online being more than twice as likely to describe themselves as âheavy usersâ of professional networking sites.
Giles Guest, managing director of Enhance Media, the online recruitment research and strategy company that produces NORAS commented â âThe continued growth in the use of mobile internet devices to search for jobs matches the movement we are seeing in the market with job hunting becoming a more regular exercise and less tied to a single location, PC or device. Our goal for NORAS is to provide information like this to employers and particularly to participating job boards so they can deliver a more intelligent, targeted service to their clients and candidates.â
